Women's Health Q&A

Why are women’s health visits important?

Women’s health visits are important because they provide sex-specific care for people with female reproductive organs. Even though all people experience similar health problems, the aging process affects the sexes differently.

Routine visits to the Family Health & Wellness Center by Dr. Singh present an opportunity to ask questions, build a relationship with your doctor, and monitor sex-specific health problems that might become more severe in the future.

What are some examples of women’s health services?

The Family Health & Wellness Center by Dr. Singh team offers various women’s health services, including:

Well-woman exams

A well-woman visit is a comprehensive check-up that may include a physical exam, breast exam, lab tests, and vaccines. It analyzes all aspects of your health and well-being to catch problems early on and help you age more gracefully.

Pap smears

A Pap smear is a preventive screening for cervical cancer. Your provider collects a cell sample from your cervix and sends it to a lab for analysis. The team encourages women aged 21-29 to get a Pap smear every three years. Women aged 30 to 65, on the other hand, should undergo a Pap smear and/or a human papillomavirus (HPV) test every five years.

Family planning

Family planning includes birth control and other fertility-related services if you want or need help starting a family.

Mammogram referrals

A mammogram is a breast X-ray that screens for breast cancer. The Family Health & Wellness Center by Dr. Singh team regularly refers women 40 and older to nearby radiology facilities for mammogram screening.

STD testing

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) should not be ignored and can increase your risk of health problems later on. STD testing can provide peace of mind and get you treatment for infections.

Do I need to schedule women’s health care if I feel fine?

Yes. Scheduling women’s health care at least once a year is essential, even if you feel fine. Many chronic health problems, like high blood pressure and cervical cancer, don’t present obvious symptoms at first. Regular check-ups with a qualified provider can catch these and other issues in the early stages of development before they worsen.
